TAKE NOTE OF MULTIPLE VERSIONS -- The "shopping cart" above initiates the downloading of 8004 v02 for a limited time. BACKGROUND -- NTCIP 8004 took content originally in NTCIP 1101 STMF and added definitions for the 1200-series NTCIP data dictionaries. The four major areas covered by NTCIP 8004 are: The nemaPrivate node -- In planning the replacement of NTCIP 1101, the Private Node was included in 8004. Subclause 2.2.2.3 defines the "nemaPrivate" node, used to identify objects defined unilaterally. NEMA is the registration authority of the nemaPrivate subnode. NEMA will assign nodes to enterprises for the purpose of defining enterprise-specific MIBs. A request for a node assignment can be sent to the NTCIP Coordinator. After assignement of a node number, the enterprise may, for example, define new MIB objects under their node. In addition, it is strongly recommended that the enterprise also register its transportation devices under their subtree, in order to provide an unambiguous identification mechanism for use in management protocols. NTCIP MIB files for v01 and v02 are available. To request access, see the instructions at Library >> MIBs. VERSION v01 HISTORY -- In 1999, the Joint Committee approved a new Work Item to organize all the Structure and Identification of Management Information for Transportation content in the new NTCIP 8004. During 2000-2001, the evolving requirements of the ITS Data Registry were also included. The ISO 14817 required that additional information (primarily meta attributes) be added to individual object definitions. NTCIP 8004 included a simple object specification (an expansion of the SNMP Object Type Macro) that defined how the meta attributes were to be added. 8004 also defined how the ITS Data Registry concept of a data frame should be defined within an NTCIP standard using a block object specification. In 2004, Standards Bulletin B0097 distributed version 8004 v01.33 for review and comment; and in 2005, NTCIP 8004 v1.36 was accepted as a Recommended Standard. Also in 2005, Standard Bulletin B0106 sent v01.37a to the SDOs for ballot and approval. In December 2005, NTCIP 8004 v01.37a was Jointly Approved. In May 2008, v01.38 was edited and published, and was available for no-cost download. In 2010, the 8004 v01 was superceded by 8004 v02. VERSION v02 HISTORY -- In 2006, the two most important changes in 8004 v02 were that (1) the Object subfields were revised to harmonize with revisions in NTCIP 8005, and (2) Section 2.6 was added to set rules for both defining new, and revising existing, MIB Objects. In 2006, NTCIP 8004 v02.04 was accepted as a User Comment Draft; and in 2007, and after further revision, NTCIP Standards Bulletin B0118 sent 8004 v02.07a to the SDOs for review and comment. In November 2007, NTCIP 8004 v02.12 was accepted as a Recommended Standard Policy. In 2009, after further revision and editing, NTCIP Standards Bulletin B0134 sent 8004 v02.15 to the SDOs for ballot and approval. In June 2010, 8004 v02.15 was Jointly Approved. In August 2010, the 8004 v02.17 was edited for publication and both posted for PDF downloading, and available for hardcopy purchase. NTCIP 8004 v02 supercedes v01. FORECAST: In 2010 -- There are no maintenance plans at this time. The FTP site's 8004 v02 MIB will be upgraded to v02.17. ### What's Available:
