VERSION v01 -- In 1999, NTCIP 2301 was accepted as a Recommended Standard by the Joint Committee. In May 2001, NTCIP 2301 v01.07 was Jointly Approved -- 2301 was approved as a Standard by AASHTO in May 2000; it was approved by ITE in May 2001; and it was approved by NEMA in May 2001. In March 2002, the printed version of the Joint Standards Publication NTCIP 2301:2001 was available for order. NTCIP 2301:2001 is version v01.08, December 2001.

VERSION v02 -- In December 2001, the draft 2301 v02 was proposed. NTCIP 2301 v02 includes changes required by NTCIP 1101 (TS_3.2) Amendment 1, NTCIP 1103 (TMP), and NTCIP 8003 (SMI). In December 2006, Standards Bulletin B0113 sent NTCIP 2301 v02.12b out for review and comment. The v02.12 revision included reference to the NTCIP 1103, "TMP," and to the 1103's Simple Fixed Message Protocol (SFMP). The SFMP provides a lower-overhead approach by not including the object identifiers. Other former “Class B” profile specifications have been retained. In April 2008, NTCIP 2301 v02.16 was accepted as a Recommended Standard. In September 2009, Standards Bulletin B0133 sent NTCIP 2301 v02.18 to the SDOs for approval.
